WORCESTERSHIRE chief executive Mark Newton has taken responsibility for landing the club in hot water with the England and Wales Cricket Board.
The New Road club have been fined £600 by the Cricket Discipline Commission for fielding an unregistered player in a Friends Provident Trophy match.
The registration document for new signing Ian Fisher was not sent to the ECB and the County noticed the error last week.
Newton says that all relevant forms are now with the authorities for the former Gloucestershire spinner.
“Ultimately I have to take responsibility for this,” Newton said. “It was an administrative error and we have apologised. Everyone knew this was coming and the matter is now closed.”
The ECB said in a statement that the Bradford-born slow left-armer was “entirely blameless” in the matter.
The statement said: “After investigation, it is accepted by the Commission that the failure to register was an administrative oversight on the part of the county. Worcestershire County Cricket Club apologised for it’s error.”
