WORCESTERSHIRE’S leading wicket-taker Chris Whelan will be rested for Friday’s County Championship Division One trip to play Lancashire at Old Trafford.
Having played in all of the New Road side’s four-day games this term, director of cricket Steve Rhodes believes the 23-year-old is in need of a rest.
“Chris has done well for us this season, but we felt that he was in need of a rest,” Rhodes said.
“Gareth Andrew will come in after impressing with the seconds. He took four wickets and scored a hundred.
“All the guys in the second team are desperate to do well and break into the first team, so it is pleasing that Gareth has done that.”
Rhodes also said he is confident that Kabir Ali will be fit for the clash with Lancashire, despite carrying minor niggles.
