Shakib is voted the Test best

WORCESTERSHIRE-bound all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been named as The Wisden Cricketer magazine’s 2009 Test player of the year.

The Bangladesh vice-captain, who will join the New Road side as the overseas player for the second-half of the season, topped the performance table of all Test players based on marks awarded by magazine correspondents.

“I guess I owe my performance to keeping things simple,” Shakib said. “I don’t lose sleep over disappointments and rather look ahead to seize the next opportunity.”

Shakib, who led his country to their first overseas Test series win against the West Indies, is the first Bangladeshi cricketer to win the award.

I am just glad he's coming to New Road!
Well done Mr Newton and Bumpy in securing his much needed services!
I am an important councillor who hopes to make his way down to see him in action, I do hope he will not disappoint!

I think any member at Worcestershire should be considered an important part of the club for the year ahead.

Let's just hope the impact of Shakib inspires the rest of the team to put in some entertaining performances, rather than being distracted by the coach falling out with the important team members.
