WORCESTERSHIRE chief executive Mark Newton hopes the County have been able to appease the majority of disgruntled members this winter.

The New Road side are holding their annual general meeting on Monday (7pm) in the Graeme Hick Pav-ilion just six months after the emotionally-charged members forum.

Following a season of no Champion-ship wins, departures of key players and a six-figure annual loss, Worestershire have gone on an overseas recruitment drive for the new campaign. The signings of Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, Australian leg-spinning all-rounder Steven Smith, as well as the return of Baggy Green opener Phil Jaques, have got fans excited.

“While we are all disappointed by what happened last year, we have moved on,” Newton said. “The recruitment by Steve Rhodes has been well received — especially because the financial restriction he has had to deal with.

“We have received no advance questions and that is usually a good indicator.”

Having seen income drop by almost £90,000 over the past year, Newton is hopeful things are about to improve.

“We have got our main sponsors on board for next season which is good news and hopefully there will be some positive news on the commercial front very soon,” the chief executive said.
