Ajmal wish for new boy

NEW signing David Lucas believes Worcestershire could benefit from Saeed Ajmal returning next summer.

With director of cricket Steve Rhodes still finalising his plans for who will fill the overseas slots next season, the 33-year-old feels the County could reap the rewards from having a player like the Pakistan off-spinner in their ranks.

Worcestershire struck gold with their overseas players this year with Australian all-rounder Damien Wright coming in for the first-half of the campaign.

The Aussie, now the bowling coach for New Zealand, was followed by ex-Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan and Ajmal, while West Indies pace ace Kemar Roach closed out the season in fine fashion.

Lucas said: “I would like to see a batsman come in for the first couple of months. Then perhaps someone like Saeed Ajmal for the second-half of the season but this is not for me to decide.”
