WORCESTERSHIRE assistant coach Ben Smith has left New Road to take on the role of batting coach at Leicestershire.
The 39-year-old left Grace Road for Worcester in 2002 before announcing his retirement in 2010 having scored 18,777 first-class runs in his career at a fraction below 40.
Smith, who made 138 first-class appearances for the New Road side amassing 8,530 runs, said: “I would like to thank Worcestershire for their support over the last 10 years, firstly as a player and then guiding me into a coaching career.
“My family and I would also like to thank all the Worces-tershire members for always making us feel welcome.
“Worcestershire are a very special club and I am certain it always will be. I am incredibly proud to have represented the club and been part of its history.”
County chief executive David Leatherdale said: “We are sorry to see Ben leave as he has been an integral part of the club over the last 10 years both on and off the field. We wish him every success in his new role with Leicestershire.”
