WORCESTERSHIRE Rapids triumphed by seven wickets after dismissing Durham Jets for 90 in the rain-hit Royal London One-Day Cup clash at the Emirates ICG.

Joe Leach, deputising as captain for the injured Daryl Mitchell, won the toss and asked Durham to bat when play finally got underway at 3.30pm in a 22 overs per side game.

The visitors quickly established a grip with a tight line and length that they never relinquished as Durham were dismissed in 21.1 overs.

Then an unbroken stand of 60 in 12.5 overs between Alexei Kervezee and Brett D’Oliveira saw the Rapids to victory with 17 balls to spare.

It was their second successive victory in the competition and followed on from another seven-wicket triumph over Yorkshire Vikings at Headingley.

Durham openers Mark Stoneman and Phil Mustard put on 24 but then wickets fell at regular intervals.

Mustard (6) was run out after he pushed Leach to mid off and set off for a quick single to George Rhodes at mid off.

But Stoneman never responded to Mustard’s call and Rhodes throw to keeper Ben Cox left Mustard stranded at the non striker’s end.

Jack Shantry bowled his permitted five overs in one spell and collected the wicket of Graham Clark (5) who nicked an away swinger and keeper Ben Cox held onto a fine catch away to his right.

Stoneman made 29 from 26 balls with three fours when he went back to Ed Barnard and was bowled.

The all-rounder struck again when Keith Jennings (0) holed out to Rhodes at mid off and then the first spell of Chris Russell’s spell bowled Scott Borthwick (1) via the bottom edge at 47-5 in the 11th over.

Ryan Pringle (9) was caught and bowled by the second ball of D’Oliveira’s spell and then Calum MacLeod (8) looped a Russell delivery straight up into the air after trying to work on the leg side to give Leach a comfortable catch.

Leach returned to the attack and Paul Coughlin (3) was caught behind and Paul Collingwood, having made 17 off 29 balls, went for a big shot and Russell clung onto a simple catch at mid on.

The innings was wrapped up with the first ball of the final over when Chris Rushworth (1) went for a sweep at D’Oliveira and was bowled.

The Rapids bowling figures were: Shantry (5-0-22-1), Leach (4-0-18-2), Barnard (5-0-18-2), Russell (4-0-23-2) and D’Oliveira (3.1-0-9-2).

Durham struck an early blow when the Rapids launched their reply as Tom Kohler-Cadmore (4) was trapped lbw by Rushworth.

Leach struck a quickfire 17 before he was bowled by Rushworth who accounted for Joe Clarke (5) in the same manner with a ball of full length with the total 31-3.

Rushworth ended his five over spell with 3-17.

Alexei Kervezee and D’Oliveira took the score past the 50 mark in the 11th over after picking up 11 from an over by Usman Arshad.

The fourth wicket pair were untroubled in ensuring the County reached their target after 19.1 overs.

Kervezee finished unbeaten on 37 from 50 balls with three fours and D’Oliveira 20 not out from 35 deliveries.
