MOEEN Ali smashed the second fastest one-day international hundred of all time by an England batsman in an astonishing display of hitting in the third match of the series with the West Indies at Bristol.

The Worcestershire all-rounder blazed his way to three figures off just 53 balls with eight sixes.

Only Jos Buttler, with a 46-ball ton against Pakistan in Dubai two years ago, has scored a quicker century for England in the format and it was the 15th fastest of all time.

It was Moeen’s third ODI hundred after his 119 versus Sri Lanka in Colombo in 2014 and 128 against Scotland at Christchurch during the 2015 World Cup.

Moeen made a steady start, scoring at around a run-a-ball for his first 30 runs but then exploded into action with a barrage of sixes.

He went to his 50 off 41 balls with three sixes in an over from former Worcestershire overseas player Miguel Cummins which cost 25 runs.

Then in the next over Moeen smashed the first three deliveries from Windies captain Jason Holder over the ropes in an over which yielded 25 more.

He went to his hundred with successive sixes off Cummins in an incredible burst of scoring which brought him 61 runs from only 13 balls.

Moeen, who was dropped on 87 and then the ball before he was dismissed, eventually fell for 102 off 57 deliveries.

He received a standing ovation all around the ground and England totalled 369-9 with 93 coming off the last six overs.
