WORCESTERSHIRE Royals will roll out their big guns for the trip to face Yorkshire Carnegie tonight (5.40pm).

The County lost their opening Friends Life t20 match at Lancashire last week by eight runs without any of their overseas signings.

But as the Royals look to avenge last year’s 104-run defeat at Headingley, director of cricket Steve Rhodes is able to call on fit-again Australian all-rounder Damien Wright and Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan.

Thirty-five-year-old Wright has not featured for Worces-tershire since limping out of the six-wicket success over Nottinghamshire in LV= County Championship Divi-sion One last week.

The Aussie, who agreed to extend his stay at New Road until the arrival of Pakistan off-spinner Saeed Ajmal next week, bruised his left calf while bowling against the reigning county champions.

Wright, who last played Twenty20 cricket for Welling-ton in New Zealand’s HRV Cup in December, has proved to be an astute signing for Worcestershire in the four-day game with 31 wickets in seven matches.

But his experience will be key to the Royals young side and he will be keen to add to his 20 wickets in 24 t20 games.

Shakib, on the other hand, comes into the squad after playing in the Indian Premier League with Kolkata Knight Riders and helping them into the knock-out stages.

The 24-year-old slow left-arm all-rounder was a fans’ favourite at New Road last summer as he became the only Bangladesh international to play county cricket.

Having taken 36 Twenty20 wickets at an average of just 18.42, Shakib is also hoping to show his explosiveness with the bat.

“We are all looking forward to seeing Damien and Shakib playing Twenty20 cricket,” Rhodes said.

“But it is not just about those two, it’s about going to Headingley and, hopefully, putting things right from our last Twenty20 visit there.”

Rhodes says he was left frustrated by Sunday’s rain as his team looked to erase the memory of last Friday’s defeat at Old Trafford with a visit from Durham Dynamos.

But it was during that reverse at Lancashire where Moeen Ali and Vikram Solanki, who makes his 50th appearance in 20-over cricket, showed what a lethal pairing they can be.

Although their opening partnership lasted less than three overs, they piled on 33 runs with Moeen striking an 11-ball 24, which was made up of six successive fours.
