WORCESTERSHIRE wrapped up their third LV= County Championship win of the season by eight wickets despite lower order resistance by Glamorgan in the Division Two clash at New Road.

The County needed 9.5 overs to reach the 51 runs required on the final day and completed the job at 1.50pm.

Glamorgan resumed their second innings on 200-7, requiring another 28 just to gain parity with Worcestershire’s opening 505-7 declared.

Alan Richardson made the breakthrough, bowling Will Owen for 40 after he had added six runs to his overnight total. Owen put on 82 in 18 overs with Jim Allenby as the Welshmen delayed the hosts’ victory charge and Michael Hogan continued in the same vein.

The Aussie seamer tucked in to a particularly wayward spell from Chris Russell to plunder 46 off 32 balls, before having his middle stump uprooted by Joe Leach, while Mike Reed soon nicked Russell to Ben Cox.

Skipper Daryl Mitchell made a run-a-ball 22, before chasing a wide one from Reed and nicking it to Stewart Walters at slip, while first innings centurion Matt Pardoe holed out to Owen at midwicket.

Moeen Ali then saw them home, his winning boundary taking him to 908 runs for the season, the highest total in the country.
