REIGNING player of the year George Williams is champing at the bit to get the new season under way for Worcester City.

The 21-year-old right-back was a revelation for the Blue and Whites in the 2013-14 campaign, turning in a consistently high level of performance during his debut season after joining from Loughborough University.

After claiming both the supporters’ and players’ awards at the club’s presentations at Sixways in April, Williams was quick to commit his future to Carl Heeley’s side for another season.

That kicks off against Stalybridge Celtic at Aggborough today (3pm) and Williams can’t wait for the action to begin.

“I just can’t wait for the season to begin. We want to get off to a good start,” he said. “We finished strongly last season and want to continue that and see where that ends up.

“We’re looking to carry that on as we didn’t get off to a good start last season. I’m really looking forward to getting started and hopefully we can have a really good campaign.”

Williams was one of a raft of players that joined the club 12 months ago and was part of one of the meanest defences in Conference North.

With the back-line all having re-signed, along with the addition of keeper Nathan Vaughan, Williams feels the continuity can only be good for the club.

He added: “When I came in last year there were a lot of new faces around, whereas this year we have managed to keep the core together and add a few players.

“From the start of pre-season we have kept a similar squad together, which is good.”

Season tickets remain on sale ahead of today’s match against Stalybridge. They are priced £234 for adults, £162 for concessions and £108 for 16 to under 21s.

Tickets remain £20 for under 16s, while the 10-game ticket is now £115 for adults and £57.50 for 16 to under 21s.
