JOHN Snape believes it is only a matter of time before Mike Symons hits the goal trail for Worcester City.

The striker, who scored 33 goals in two seasons before joining Oxford City, has yet to find the net on his return to the club.

However, he hit the post during last Saturday’s 2-2 draw against Stalybridge Celtic and fell foul of the linesman’s flag when he thought he had scored against Oxford in Tuesday’s 0-0 draw.

“His work-rate and effort around the box was fantastic against Oxford,” Snape said. “Symmo worked his socks off again in the middle of the pitch and caused them all sorts of trouble.

“It’s looking positive for him and once he gets that first goal I think he’ll go on and score a few more for us.”

Symons is again set to lead the line as City head to Guiseley tomorrow (3pm) looking to keep their unbeaten start to the campaign intact.

Daniel Nti and Nick Wright, who scored both goals against Stalybridge at Aggborough, have been part of a three-pronged attack with Danny Jackman behind the former Gloucester man.

But ex-Stevenage forward Daniel Udoh has impressed coming off the bench in both games and winger Tristan Dunkley did likewise in the opening fixture.

“We didn’t score, so that may mean a change,” said Snape, who took charge of the team on Tuesday because manager Carl Heeley was ill and assistant boss Matt Gardiner away with work.

“Keeping players happy is going to be a problem because I think the bench is as good as the starting 11.

“It’s a great headache for us to have going into the away match at Guiseley tomorrow.”

Centre-half Wayne Thomas missed the Oxford match through illness and could return but Jacob Rowe proved an able deputy alongside Graham Hutchison.

Keeper Nathan Vaughan suffered a foot injury at Marsh Lane but is expected to be fit.

City’s only other injury doubt is former Kidderminster Harriers winger David McDermott (groin).

Worcester won 1-0 at Nethermoor Park in February with Aaron Brown scoring the winner.
