JACOB Rowe says Worcester City have broken through a psychological barrier by recording their first win of the season and are looking to climb the table.

The Blue and Whites head to Barrow today (3pm) having broken their Vanarama Conference North duck against North Ferriby United last Saturday.

Centre-half Rowe said: “We’ve had an average start to the season but I think we have been a bit unfortunate with the games we have drawn and hopefully we can push on and start turning them into wins like we did last Saturday.

“It was a bit psychological having lost one and drawn the rest and the more that continues sometimes the harder it is to break that psychology and it’s always playing on your mind.

“It was good to get the opening win and hopefully we can take another three points today and on Tuesday against Lowestoft as well.”

Rowe has seen his opportunities limited since returning to the club in the summer with Wayne Thomas and Graham Hutchison the prefered central defence pairing.

The former Birmingham defender played in the 0-0 draw at Oxford City, which Thomas missed through illness, and appeared as a late substitute in the North Ferriby victory.

“Of course I want to be playing and I was frustrated, I thought I played well in the (Oxford) game and when it came to selection for the next game I was hoping to be in the team,” Rowe said.

“But, at the same time, I have to understand that the gaffer has made the call on it, Thommo has come back in and he’s done well.

“The defence has been strong since so I can’t complain but as a player I want to be playing week in, week out.

“I’m not here to sit on the bench. I know that’s what I’m doing at the moment but I want to be on the pitch, absolutely.”
