DANIEL Nti scored for the first time in five games to earn Worcester City a deserved point against Boston United at Aggborough.

The striker, who has been struggling in front of goal, produced a neat shot on the turn six minutes after the break to cancel out Conner Robinson’s 36th-minute opener tonight.

Nti’s fourth goal of the campaign also ensured City protected a home run which has seen them lose just once at Aggborough in 2014.

But, not for the first time this season, the Blue and Whites could have had much more to show for their efforts after dominating for large spells.

More often than not it was style over substance in the first-half, with the hosts’ best two efforts coming from set-pieces, but they had more of a cutting edge after the break.

Yet Boston took their chance when it came and Dayle Southwell was denied a stoppage-time winner by keeper Jose Veiga, making his first start of the season in place of Nathan Vaughan in goal.

Danny Jackman had two early chances, first firing over from the edge of the box and then curling a free-kick inches wide from a similar position.

Tyler Weir, who scored twice against the Pilgrims on the final day of last season, had a long-range effort comfortably saved by Paul Farman.

The keeper was then forced to frantically clear his lines after spilling Sean Geddes’ fiercely-struck free-kick.

Boston were quick on the break but Worcester enjoyed the lion’s share of the possession.

Mike Symons’ shot was deflected for a corner and Jackman picked out Nti from the flag-kick but his stooping header was cleared off the line.

City were made to pay for not capitalising on their superiority when Boston took the lead against the run of play.

Rene Steer’s left-wing cross found Robinson, whose initial effort was parried by Veiga but the ball went straight back to the striker and he rifled it high into the net.

City were unperturbed, however, and finished the first-half strongly before starting the second in a similar vein.

They deservedly drew level in the 51st minute with a neat strike from Nti.

Connor Gater fed him the ball on the edge of the box and the striker turned marker Steer before firing low past Farman.

With the bit between their teeth, City’s Geddes set David McDermott, starting for the first time this term, off on a break from deep inside their own half and he slid a inch-perfect pass to Gater.

The midfielder’s well-struck shot was blocked by Farman, who recovered to smother the rebound as well.

Veiga made a smart save to his right to deny Jay Dowie midway through the second period before, at the other end, Geddes was thwarted twice by Farman in a matter of seconds.

Both sides went in search of a late winner and it needed Veiga to preserve the point the hosts had worked so hard for.
