WORCESTER City manager Carl Heeley was delighted to cap off a week in which he signed a new contract by ending the club’s winless run away from home.

The Blue and Whites boss said: “It was certainly the best result of the season so far.

“It’s always difficult at Gainsborough, it’s not been a happy hunting ground for us in recent seasons and we’ve been due a win. It was a decent performance and the three points were fully deserved.”

City took only eight minutes to take the lead in the Vanarama Conference North clash thanks to captain George Williams.

They never looked like relinquishing it, especially when Sean Geddes added a second before half-time.

After the match, Heeley was pleased to put to bed some demons by his side netting their first away goals of the campaign.

He continued: “We started off really well and then George goes and hits an absolute screamer.

“It’s been a long time coming, a goal away from home, but it is sometimes worth waiting for as that was as good a strike as you’re ever going to see.

“I thought we were dominant in the first 25 minutes and the game really should have been dead and buried by then.”

The City manager was quick to praise the team’s defensive display as they managed to withstand a late onslaught from the Lincolnshire side.

He added: “When we needed to defend at the end, they were all willing to put their bodies on the line.

“I thought we got to grips with it after the first 20 minutes of the first-half.

“From there, we defended well and at the end, when we were put under the cosh, we were incredible.”

The Blue and Whites will be hoping to continue their good run of form on Saturday when they travel to league rivals Leamington in the FA Cup.
