MANAGER Carl Heeley says his Worcester City players will not be distracted by the possibility of reaching the FA Cup first round proper.

The Blue and Whites take on Leamington in a third qualifying round replay at Aggborough tonight (7.45pm) with a home match against Greenwich Borough, one of the lowest ranked sides left in the competition, awaiting the winners in the final qualifying round.

Having avoided the 24 Vanarama Conference teams in yesterday’s draw, both teams will fancy their chances of making progress.

But Heeley says Worcester’s sole focus will be beating the Brakes at the second time of asking after Saturday’s match between the Conference North rivals ended 1-1 at the New Windmill Ground.

The City boss said: “There’s an incentive for getting through the game. You can’t ask for any more than a home draw against a lower ranked team.

“It’s a super incentive for us but also one for Leamington.

“But we’re not there yet and it’s going to be a very tough game and we want to focus on that.

“The players’ minds won’t be drifting from tonight’s game, there’s no question of that. You just don’t do it.”

Greenwich play in Southern Counties East, three levels below City on the non-league ladder, and have won five matches so far in the competition.

Along with Willand Rovers, of the Western League Premier Division, and Northern League Division One outfit Shildon, who face a replay at Stourbridge, Greenwich are one of three step-five teams still in the running.

Should City progress tonight, the match would likely take place at Aggborough on Sunday, October 26, as landlords Kidderminster Harriers have been drawn at home to Conference rivals Eastleigh and would take priority.

Evesham United’s reward for beating Chalfont St Peter 4-1 is a home tie against either Bromley or Grays Athletic, who herald from Conference South and the Ryman League Premier Division respectively.

City hope to have Graham Hutchison back to face Leamington but will assess the centre-half prior to kick-off after he took a knock to the head at the weekend and was replaced by Wayne Thomas. Striker Nick Wright, who scored his side’s goal on Saturday, is expected to continue in place of Mike Symons, who has an ankle injury.

Midfielder David McDermott could be in the reckoning following a hamstring injury, but winger Tristan Dunkley, who dislocated his shoulder in the second qualifying round victory over Rugby Town, remains on the sidelines.

Meanwhile, Harriers are trying to find Dan Udoh a new club in a bid to get the teenage winger first team football. Udoh made eight substitute appearances for Worcester and will remain registered by the Blue and Whites.
