STRIKER Daniel Nti says Worcester City will give everything they have in their bid to shock Coventry City on Sunday (2pm).

Worcester head to the Ricoh Arena for the FA Cup first-round clash looking to defeat Football League opposition in the competition for the first time since beating Aldershot in the 1983-84 season.

While it is a daunting task, Nti believes it is one City should relish and he is determined for his team-mates to do themselves justice.

Last season’s top-scorer, who has four goals this term, said: “It’s great for everybody at the club.

“I’m sure we’ll go and give Coventry a good test. We’ll work hard and leave everything on the pitch.

“We’re going to give it 100 per cent. They may be the higher-ranked club but we’ve got a lot of heart and character and I’m sure we’ll display that on the pitch on Sunday.

“No doubt I want to play but it’s a team game and if the gaffer decides it’s right to play someone else then, as long as we get through and work as a team, it will be the best option.”

Nti also reckons the Blue and Whites are in fine fettle after they hit back to draw 2-2 at Leamington last Saturday, stretching their unbeaten run to eight games.

Trailing to two penalties in Vanarama Conference North, Jordan Murphy pulled a goal back in the 39th minute before sub Mike Symons equalised a minute from time.

Nti said: “Before the game, we were still thinking about the cup match because it’s such a great draw.

“But when we got to Leamington we had to think of the game in hand and get through it to put ourselves in good stead.

“The boys showed great character to come back from that 2-0 deficit and we could have come away with the three points.”

Meanwhile, manager Carl Heeley admitted handing Tristan Dunkley his first start of the season against Leamington may have overwhelmed the young winger, who has just returned from a shoulder injury.

He was replaced by Symons just shy of the hour mark.

The City boss added: “We know what Tristan can do and he’s got an impact but it was maybe a bit too much for him too soon. But he worked hard and I can’t ask anything more of him.”
