JORDAN Murphy says he is finding his time at Worcester City hugely beneficial.

The 18-year-old attacking midfielder is currently in the middle of his second month on loan from League One Walsall and has seized his opportunity.

He has started four games, including the FA Cup triumph at Coventry City, and been used as a substitute four times as well.

In the process, the forward has scored two goals, one a neat finish in the 2-0 win over Harrogate Town and the other a reward for his endeavour in chasing a seemingly lost cause in the 2-2 league draw at Leamington.

Murphy, by his own admission, is making a larger impact than expected in such a short space of time and manager Carl Heeley has made no secret of his desire to keep the teenager at Aggborough.

After all, playing Conference North football every week is infinitely more useful to his career than warming the bench for the Saddlers.

City have a good relationship with Walsall after taking Kieron Morris on loan at the end of the 2012-13 campaign, a player who is now in the first-team picture at the Bescot Stadium.

Murphy will be looking to follow in his footsteps after his impressive stint with the Blue and Whites.

“It’s been brilliant. All the lads have welcomed me and everyone looks after me,” he said.

“It’s a great environment to play in, I’m getting more first-team experience than I thought I would and I’m pushing for a place now.

“I’m just going month by month. My loan finishes on December 8 and then who knows what happens?

“It’s difficult because things can change so quickly in football. Walsall could have me back and I could sit there or they could have me back through injuries and I could be starting.

“For the moment I am perfectly happy where I am and with how things are going.

“With some of the ex pros like Thommo (Wayne Thomas) and Ellis Deeney, who played in the FA Youth Cup final, they have taught me a lot and I’m still learning every week.”

Murphy, who joined Walsall after being spotted playing for Stourbridge, helped inspire City to a 2-1 victory over Leamington last weekend after his and Connor Gater’s arrival as second-half subs sparked the hosts into life.

The youngster also emphasised how important it was for Worcester to back up their cup glory with three points in the league.

He said: “The worst thing you can do is come from a big result like that against Coventry with all your home fans watching and then disappoint.

“I think we approached it correctly, we gave Leamington the respect that they deserved as a club and went out there and did a job,” added Murphy.

“You’ve got to differentiate between the cup and league.

“Cup success is one thing and it’s brilliant while you’re involved in the competition, but the league is the main thing and that’s what keeps you going.”
