MIKE Symons says Worcester City have no intention of letting next month’s FA Cup tie against Scunthorpe United become a distraction.

City are preparing for one of the biggest games in their history when they head to Glanford Park for the second round clash with the Lincolnshire club on Sunday, December 7.

But prior to that they have two leagues games, including today’s Conference North trip to Harrogate Town (3pm), and the FA Trophy third qualifying round meeting against Barrow next Saturday.

Carl Heeley’s side already boast a 10-game unbeaten run and are determined to keep that going and Symons says it is vital Worcester don’t ease up.

The Worcester striker said: “We have got a few games between now and then so hopefully we’ll keep the squad injury-free so we can prepare right.

“We need to get our minds back on the league battle because we are in a great position and hopefully we can push up into the play-offs.

“When we come to that game against Scunthorpe we can be in a great position in the league and that will give us the confidence to go into the game and win it.”

Captain Ellis Deeney has also been impressed with his team-mates in recent matches and believes they have proved they have what it takes to be a force in Conference North. “The one thing that I liked about the Coventry game was none of our players froze, they didn’t let the occasion get ahead of them or anything like that,” he said.

“The Coventry game is going to give the lads confidence and make them realise how good a team we actually are and that we can also go and do something good in the league this season.

“We’ve got a good quality squad, everyone that starts to the ones that don’t get in, we can all rotate.”
