DELIGHTED chairman Anthony Hampson described Worcester City’s FA Cup run as manna from heaven for the club.

City’s run to the second round has banked the Blue and Whites well in excess of £100,000 through prize money and gate receipts.

They now have a lucrative replay against Scunthorpe United live on BT Sport to look forward to on Wednesday, December 17, following yesterday's 1-1 draw at Glanford Park.

With the club in exile at Kidderminster Harriers’ Aggborough stadium, all efforts are being made for a new ground in Worcester, with the supporters’ trust ready to submit plans for Perdiswell.

Hampson believes the money is a godsend to the Conference North club in their quest to once again return to their home city.

“It is manna from heaven,” he said. “We’re looking for funds for the new stadium at what we hope may be Perdiswell and it all builds to the realisation that Worcester really is a footballing city and we do have the support there for a club of this type of calibre.

“We’ve beaten Coventry, had a great performance against Scunthorpe and I really hope we can get a seriously good crowd when we have the replay. We won’t have much trouble selling the tickets.

“We have done tremendously well, we’ve got a wonderful cohort of seriously-talented players and a marvellous manager and assistant manager.

“The support has been absolutely outstanding too.”

City trailed 1-0 at half-time to Paddy Madden’s goal but Daniel Nti’s equaliser immediately after the restart had the travelling fans dreaming of another cup upset to follow the Coventry triumph.

Assistant manager Matt Gardiner said: “For us to get a result is a major achievement — and to go and win at a Football League ground in the round before was a major achievement.

“I am delighted for the club. I know it’s an old story but we’ve got no ground, we’re in exile and the fans are coming out in force — 2,200 travelling to Scunthorpe on a Sunday is unbelievable.

“What a great opportunity now for the people of Worcester to come back to Kidderminster and get Aggborough full for a City game.”

Gardiner added: “We have got a group of players that are really working for each other. It’s about giving them a platform to go and show what they can do because I believe a big proportion of them can be playing higher.”
