WORCESTER City’s squad players will get a chance to stake a claim for Conference North action in tonight’s Worcestershire FA Senior Cup semi-final at holders Redditch United (7.45pm).

The Blue and Whites are expected to ring the changes for the last-four clash at the Valley Stadium in a bid to create more competition for places.

City have struggled in recent weeks and have not scored a goal since beating Stalybridge Celtic 1-0 on December 20.

Forwards Nick Wright, Michael Taylor, Tristan Dunkley and new signing Connor Collins are all in the running to start against the Reds, while academy central midfielder Dean Waldron could also feature.

With Tyler Weir suffering an ankle injury in Sunday’s 1-0 defeat to Bradford Park Avenue, Connor Gudger and teenager Jamie Smith are in contention at left-back.

Assistant manager Matt Gardiner said: “With the amount of games that we’ve got, we’ll be mixing it up.

“It’s an opportunity for people because, whoever plays in that game, we’re looking for someone to take it by the scruff of the neck and show us that they want to score goals.

“People like Connor, Michael, Nick and Tristan, who didn’t start on Sunday, let’s see what they’ve got and what they can bring to this important part of the season.”

He added: “I think Dean and Jamie did well when they came on against Hyde and Stalybridge last month so I would certainly like to look at them around some of the more senior players.”

City have not won the senior cup since 1997 and, due to only five teams in the competition, tonight’s match is the first for both sides, with the winners facing either Kidderminster Harriers or Stourbridge in the final.

Redditch are fourth in the Southern League Premier Division, having lost just one league match in 14.

Meanwhile, Evesham United travel to Cinderford Town for a Southern League Division One South and West match tonight (7.45).
