WORCESTER City defender Tyler Weir is back on his feet and has targeted a return to competitive action at the end of this month.

The full-back broke the fourth metatarsal in his left foot in City’s 1-0 home defeat against Bradford Park Avenue last month.

He said: “The medics initially said I would be out for eight to ten weeks but when I went back to get it checked they said it would be six to eight weeks. I have started walking on my foot and I hope to be in match action at the end of February.

“I have four weeks to get fit and hopefully I will be back in training the week after next.”

Weir added: “I have been doing some biking and have had a programme so I am keeping up my fitness levels. But I am pretty bored because I am a labourer. I have not been able to work for four weeks so I have been playing FIFA and watching DVDs.”

Weir will be cheering on City in today’s Vanarama Conference North derby action against Gloucester City at Aggborough (3pm).

Gloucester won 2-0 at Whaddon Road last month and should be cheered on by a healthy number of fans travelling to Kidderminster.

Weir said: “Gloucester are my old club and the games with them were the first ones I looked for in the fixture list.

“Since I have been at Worcester, we have played Gloucester six or seven times and never beaten them so I am hoping that changes.”

The ex-Hereford United youngster is enjoying his time at City and paid tribute to manager Carl Heeley and assistant Matt Gardiner.

“We are all pleased for Graham Hutchison, who moved to Halifax this week, and that’s down to the gaffer and Gards,” added Weir.

“I am sure more of the lads at the club could play at a higher level — and the credit for that goes to the gaffer and Gards.”

Meanwhile, City’s home league game with Fylde will now be on Tuesday, March 17 (7.45pm).
