MANAGER Carl Heeley was pleased with the way his Worcester City side rose to the challenge in the 2-0 win at Colwyn Bay.

The north Wales outfit were chasing a first victory since November 22 in their bid to avoid relegation from Vanarama Conference North.

City were coming off the back of a 3-0 defeat at North Ferriby United, following the postponement against Gloucester City, and needed a morale-boosting victory.

Heeley said: “We talked about what to expect and that it was going to be a battle because they are scrapping for their lives.

“When teams are in trouble they haven’t got anything to lose and have a go at it but we felt if we could get the first goal and get ourselves ahead that could be crucial.

“I thought we played very well in the first-half, as well as we’ve played for some time, and deservedly got ahead. The only slight criticism was we didn’t put the game to bed.

“In the second-half, Colwyn Bay had a good go at us and we always looked a threat on the counter-attack.

“Fortunately, the two key moments with Ryan Boot saving the penalty and Sean Geddes sticking ours away won us the game.

“When Sean’s stepping up to take a penalty, you always fancy him because he’s got lots of goals in him and certainly doesn’t miss from the spot very often.”

City are still 12th in the table but are only seven points shy of the top five with games in hand. Heeley added: “We’re trying to forget about the play-offs in all honesty. We’re trying to just concentrate on the next game, which has served us well all season.

“Inevitably, when you have a good run and get near, it’s (the play-offs) got to be the focus but I am delighted with the clean sheet, that we got two goals and won the game.

“It was a competitive game. We saw a lot of the ball, passed it well and kept possession.”
