CONNOR Collins is to leave Worcester City after barely two months at the club after being told he needs to be realistic about his playing opportunities.

According to manager Carl Heeley, the striker, who joined from Midland League Division Two side Fairfield Villa at the turn of the year, is frustrated at a lack of game-time.

The 20-year-old, who has scored 31 goals in 24 games for Villa this season and remains registered to the club, has appeared just twice for Worcester as a substitute.

Heeley says Collins has talent but can’t expect to make the step up to City’s grade overnight and is ready to cut his ties with the player.

“Connor didn’t tell me but he’s told Matt Gardiner (assistant manager) and John Snape (coach) that he’s frustrated and wants to be playing every week but he’s got to be real about it,” the Worcester manager said.

“He’s not ready to start in Conference North and if he wants to play every week then he’s going to have to go and play at a lower level because he’s certainly not going to get a regular berth at the moment at Worcester City.

“You try to give these boys an opportunity but he hasn’t got the patience to see things through.

“It looks like he’ll move on.

“It’s being disrespectful to the level of football if, with the greatest of respect, he thinks he’s going to step up from Fairfield Villa’s level to Conference North and replicate what he’s been doing _ it’s not going to happen.

“We can see that in training — the boy had potential but he didn’t want to wait for the opportunity so we move on.”

Scoring goals remains an issue and City head into tomorrow’s match against Stockport County at Aggborough as the division’s lowest scorers — with 30 goals from 27 games.

That issue has not been helped by Daniel Nti, the club’s second highest marksman with nine behind 12-goal Sean Geddes, sustaining a leg injury in the Worcestershire FA Senior Cup semi-final victory at Redditch United.

Heeley had been hoping to draft in a striker on loan this week but that deal is now unlikely to happen before the weekend.

Worcester, however, do have the second best defence in the league, having conceded one goal fewer than leaders Fylde.

They will be aiming to protect that against Stockport with on-loan keeper Ryan Boot set to continue in the absence of Nathan Vaughan (foot).
