EVESHAM United chairman Jim Cockerton says Worcester City would save money if they entered into a ground-share deal with his club.

The Robins’ Jubilee Stadium is one of the options being considered by City for a temporary home beyond the end of the current season at Aggborough.

Kidderminster Harriers, who have been City’s landlords since the start of the 2013-14 campaign, have tabled a further two-year deal, while Worcester officials have also visited Bromsgrove Sporting’s Victoria Ground.

But Evesham, who shared at St George’s Lane for six seasons while their new Cheltenham Road ground was being built following their departure from Common Road, are keen to offer City a home.

Although the Jubilee Stadium needs new turnstiles and toilet facilities to bring it up to Conference North standard, Cockerton insists that is achievable before the Football Association’s March 31 deadline for club’s to nominate home grounds.

He also reckons the pitch “is in excellent condition,” something that cannot be said of Aggborough at the moment.

The Evesham chief said: “We could save them a lot of money on what they are paying at Kidderminster. We would have one or two minor alterations with an extra three turnstiles and toilets. The work would be done but we haven’t heard any more.

"They were over the moon with it, it’s a great facility and we can accommodate them so it’s up to them.”

Sporting chairman John Teece says the Victoria Ground can host Conference North football following major investment, including new floodlights, and also felt the condition of the pitch was a good selling point.

He added: “Our pitch is tremendous. If they did come there would only be two teams playing on it and that’s Worcester City and ourselves so it would be played on once a week.

“I have suggested some figures which I think would be acceptable to them but I haven’t heard anything since.”

Meanwhile, manager Carl Heeley said City got what they deserved in losing 4-1 to Solihull Moors at Aggborough.

City were 3-0 down on Tuesday before substitute Aaron Brown headed home, but Omar Bogle added a fourth for the visitors with a deflected free-kick.

Heeley said: “When we turn in a performance like that of course it’s frustrating but we haven’t helped ourselves.”
