MIKE Symons has been back among the goals for Worcester City in recent matches and manager Carl Heeley hopes there are plenty more to come.

The in-form striker’s excellently executed header to give City the lead in Tuesday’s 1-1 Conference North draw against Guiseley took his tally to the season for eight.

Added to his strikes against Chorley last Saturday and Stockport County the weekend before, Symons has now bagged three goals in his last four matches.

It is a marked improvement in form considering it took the striker four months to score his first four of the campaign.

The 28-year-old is now just one behind fellow forward Daniel Nti in the scoring charts and five adrift of leading marksman Sean Geddes.

While Symons brings more to City’s game than just goals, with fans appreciative of his hold-up play and work ethic, Heeley is delighted to see him reaping the rewards.

“Mike is in a rich vein of form and doing well,” said the Worcester boss, whose side host Gainsborough Trinity at Aggborough today (3pm). “He was up there on his own in the second half against Guiseley and he works tirelessly for the team.

“When the ball is in and around him, he tries to keep it for you and buys you a few seconds to build off him.

“I am delighted that he got a goal and let’s hope he starts banging a few in now because he deserves it for his effort alone.”

Heeley was full of praise for his team against Guiseley as they defended resolutely after playing for more than an hour with ten men.

Kyle Haynes completed 90 minutes, despite having a thigh problem, and the manager has been impressed with his progress since arriving at the club.

The right-back was signed from Stourbridge following George Williams’ sale to Barnsley and has grown in stature over the past ten games.

Heeley added: “Kyle has done ever so well since he’s come to the club. He’s stepped up to the level quite comfortably and he’ll improve.”
