BREAKING the 60-point barrier in Conference North is Worcester City’s next target as they prepare to face the league’s top two sides in four days at Aggborough.

Carl Heeley’s team, who host second-placed Fylde tonight (7.45) and leaders Barrow on Saturday, moved on to 52 points following the 4-1 victory at Solihull Moors, surpassing the 50 they have finished with in each of the past two seasons.

Now they are chasing the 65 reached in the 2011-12 campaign and looking to close the seven-point gap between themselves and the play-offs.

Heeley said: “Nobody will expect us to get anything against Fylde or Barrow but we’re doing ok and it’s a shot to nothing for us.

“We’ve gone past last season’s points tally — that was the immediate aim — and now we’re going to move on and try to get above 60 points as quick as we can and see where we go.

“We never go into a game fearing anybody, we believe in what we’ve got. The squad might be threadbare but they’re a match for anybody in this league.”

City’s list of absentees remains lengthy after left-back Tyler Weir (foot), midfielder Connor Gater (groin), striker Michael Taylor (hamstring) and keeper Nathan Vaughan (foot) were joined on the sidelines by midfielder Danny Jackman, who suffered an ankle injury at the weekend.

Aaron Brown, who missed the Solihull win with injury, starts a two-game ban tonight following his red card against Guiseley, his second sending off this season.

With Jackman and Weir injured, and Shabir Khan serving a six-match ban, City will be hoping to extend the loan of left-back Jonathan Lynch from Southport, along with forward Micah Evans.

The pair’s one-month stay ended following the Solihull match and City were yesterday working on a deal to keep them at Aggborough.

The Worcester manager said: “When they first came in you could see they were short of football but Micah Evans has scored a couple of goals and Jonathan Lynch has done a solid job for us. He’s just a steady full-back.

“They travel down a long way and they’ve made good contributions to us.”

The absence of Brown also coincides with Wayne Thomas leaving the club to join the New York Red Bulls’ coaching staff, meaning Jacob Rowe and new recruit Anthony Charles are the only available centre-halves.

Heeley said Charles’ arrival was not influenced by Thomas moving to the States, adding: “That wasn’t the reason we went out and signed Anthony Charles, we took him because he’s a good player and we needed another central defender.

“I thought he was superb on Saturday.”

Fylde, who beat Worcester 4-0 in Lancashire in September, drew 2-2 at Chorley at the weekend and come to Aggborough three points behind table-topping Barrow.
