MANAGER Carl Heeley is not going to allow Worcester City’s season to peter out.

With just six games to go, City’s hopes of gate-crashing the Conference North play-offs have all but been extinguished following Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at Boston United.

But they remain on track for their best finish since the 2011-12 campaign and play their remaining matches against teams currently in the bottom half of the table, starting at 15th-placed Lowestoft Town on Saturday.

Heeley said: “We want to finish as high up the table as we can and it is certainly not a case of letting it go flat and the season petering out. The effort is still there.

“We can reflect on a great season when it is over and we have not had to look over our shoulders all this season.

“Our aim while we are in exile is to keep our status at this level of football.

“We have done that comfortably and never been in any danger.

“There is a lot to look forward to. Let us see if we can finish off by picking up a few more wins.

“We have come out of possibly the toughest run of the season in Fylde, Barrow and Boston. We have got a long trip next weekend and then play sides that look favourable.

“Although they are not going to be easy, there is an opportunity for us to move the points tally on again.”

Left-back Tyler Weir made his first start since injury but leading scorer Sean Geddes misses the trip to Suffolk through suspension.

Heeley said: “We cannot pick the same side for two weeks on the run at the moment.

“We have lost a lot of players and there has been a big turnaround in the squad because of the success we have had. It has made it tough.

“As much as we have had good times this season and fortune with injuries and suspensions, it has bitten us at the wrong time — and it was always going to happen.

“Every side has a time in the season when they are cruelly hit by injuries and suspensions. Ours has come at a crucial time.”
