MANAGER Carl Heeley said it would have been a travesty had Worcester City ended up losing to Brackley Town.

City trailed to Greg Kaziboni’s 14th minute strike but saw a host of chances go begging before Mike Symons’ injury-time equaliser rescued a 1-1 draw at Aggborough.

It lifted them to ninth in the table, their highest position since the turn of the year, and Heeley felt it was no more than they deserved.

He said: “I thought they started slightly better than us for the first 15 minutes or so but from then I thought we dominated the game.

“We can be critical and say we didn’t deal with the ball on the half-way line (for their goal) but it was a super strike and there’s not much you can do about that.

“We kept putting good quality into the box and I think if we hadn’t had got a reward from that with the chances we had then it would have been a bit of a travesty.

“We perhaps should have maximised our opportunities a little bit more because for all of the possession, all too often the strikes weren’t on target and were trickling the wrong side of the post.

“But if it had gone on for another two minutes I think without question we would have won the game.

“They’re a good, solid side, they don’t concede many goals so it was always going to be tough and we’re delighted to finally get our rewards.”

The City boss continued: “We’ve gone up a couple of places and it’s about finishing as high as we can.

“If we could finish in the top eight or 10 then I think that would be a really satisfying season to look back on with the cup run we’ve had.”

Top-scorer Sean Geddes returned from suspension but Heeley kept faith with the side that drew 1-1 at Lowestoft Town at the weekend.

He said: “Sean is one of our most potent goal threats, if not the most, but I had to be fair to the lads who went all the way to Lowestoft, they did really well and there was no need for me to change it.

“Sean said he didn’t expect me to change it but I thought he made an impact.”

Heeley also praised the performance of academy midfielder Joao Sousa, saying: “For a lad playing his second full game he’s acquitted himself incredibly well and he looks a decent prospect.

“Him and Dean Waldron have had more opportunities than James Lemon and Jamie Smith but he’s got good energy and a super left foot.”
