A WORCESTER City duo have left the National League North club for foreign climes.

Centre-half Jacob Rowe has gone travelling in Asia and is not due back until September when he will be looking to start a job after finishing university.

Young left-sided player Joao De Sousa has moved back to his native Portugal with the hope of earning a professional deal.

Former Birmingham City academy defender Rowe, 24, was a regular in the City line-up last season with 42 appearances and the one goal against Rugby Town in the FA Cup.

He is exploring the world after finishing his studies with a Bachelor of Science in business management from the University of Worcester but may return to City depending on where his off-the-pitch career takes him later in the year.

Teenager De Sousa emerged from the City academy to join the first team for training and showed his potential with a spectacular strike in the 4-1 league win over Hyde at Aggborough in April.

He made four starts and five substitute appearances but has headed back to Portugal.

City joint manager Matt Gardiner said: “Joao has moved home to Portugal and we wish him all the best.

"He was great for us but feels he will have more opportunities back home, where his family are as well.

“There will be opportunities here for other young players, like Dean Waldron and Jamie Smith.

"It’s a big season for them to support the rest of the squad.

“Jacob is away travelling and won’t be back until September. He then has his job offers to look at.”

Former academy full-back and Bishop Perowne College pupil Smith came off the bench five times for City last season.

Midfielder Waldron played in 12 games, including six starts, and made a good impression.

Waldron, who went to Christopher Whitehead Language College, was on the books at Walsall and Aston Villa as a promising youngster before joining Worcester’s academy.
