WORCESTER City will be fielding at least one new face in tonight’s pre-season friendly against Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division newcomers Bedworth United at The Oval (7.30pm).

City joint-manager Carl Heeley says the Blue and Whites could be trialling a forward in the warm-up match on Bedworth’s 3G synthetic pitch.

Rob Elvins won’t be risked after his hamstring tightened following Saturday’s 4-1 win at Bishop's Cleeve.

Heeley is not sure whether defender Tyler Weir, who has just returned from holiday and has not yet been to training, will get an opportunity.

Former Hereford United goalkeeper Daniel Lloyd- Weston, who starred in the Bulls’ final season in the Conference Premier, is on trial at City and might get another chance.

Trialists Sam Minihan and George Nash both caught the eye at Cleeve.

“All being well, one of the new trialists will be a forward and there’s a possibility of another one,” said Heeley.

“We will take another large squad to Bedworth and we will be using a number of players.

“Sam Minihan’s versatility is a big thing because he can play in several positions and that is an attractive proposition for us.

"Sam’s a strong boy, who can pass and is very strong in the tackle and he’s certainly one we will be looking at after the Bedworth game.”

Bedworth recorded a 3-0 win at home to Tividale on Saturday. The Greenbacks are managed by the experienced Stuart Storer, the former Birmingham City player.

“We pick our pre-season friendlies very carefully and at Bishop’s Cleeve, for instance, we played well on a bobbly pitch which we could have to contend with in the early rounds of the FA Trophy or FA Cup,” said Heeley.

“Bedworth play on a 3G pitch and we train on one twice a week so it should not pose any problems.”
