WORCESTER City will be holding talks with former Shrewsbury Town forward Ashley Vincent in the next 24 hours.

The 30-year-old has been on trial with the Vanarama National League North outfit and scored a stunning 25-yard effort in a 2-1 friendly victory at Rushall Olympic.

The experienced Vincent remains a striking target for Worcester despite being unavailable for last Friday’s 2-2 draw against Birmingham City’s under 21s.

City open their new campaign with a long trip to Lincolnshire to face Gainsborough Trinity on Saturday (3pm).

City joint manager Carl Heeley said: “Ash is back now and we are having a discussion with him in the next 24 hours. We have been working on a number of things and we have had one or two frustrations over a po - tential new forward coming in.

“But we are quite confident we might be able to add a striker prior to Saturday.

“Ash is one of the possibilities we are considering and it will boil down to the deal. We will be talking to him as well as one or two others.”

Heeley added: “We are pleased with what we have got but we would like one or two options.

“We want to get in the right player and we won’t just sign someone for the sake of it. If we can’t get the right person, we will go into Saturday with what we have got.”

The Blue and Whites, who finished ninth last term, have an injury concern over left-back Darren Campion (groin), who arrived from Hednesford Town in the summer.

But Heeley is pleased to have signed former Hereford United goalkeeper Daniel Lloyd-Weston to add competition for the jersey.

“We need two goalkeepers and we did not want to go through the sea - son with seven or eight,” said Heeley.

“We already had Nathan Vaughan and we wanted competition in the goalkeeper’s department.

“Dan’s got a good pedigree and experience and is a former England ‘C’ international.

“It’s definitely going to be a good battle for the goalkeeper’s jersey.

“There are a number of other decisions to be made all over the pitch and also on the formation.

“Matt Gardiner and I had a chat and we are nearly where we want to be."
