WORCESTER City defender Tyler Weir is eyeing a return to action against Chorley at Aggborough next Saturday in Vanarama National League North.

The former Hereford United player will miss today’s showdown with Lowestoft Town after he was involved in a sickening clash of heads in the first-half of Tuesday’s 2-1 defeat against Tamworth.

Weir feared he might have suffered a broken cheekbone in the incident with Tamworth’s Curtis Strong.

Instead, the defender had 10 stitches in the head wound and he is likely to be unavailable for next Tuesday’s trip to Solihull Moors.

“I went to hospital after I came off and I spent around five hours in hospital in Worcester,” recalled Weir.

“I had 10 stitches in my forehead, the bit between my eye and eyebrow was glued and I also had a cut on my eyebrow which needed treatment. The medical staff told me I had come close to breaking my cheekbone. If that had happened, I would have needed an operation and I would have been out for 10 weeks but, luckily, that wasn’t the case.”

Weir recalled: “Nathan Vaughan kicked the ball out and I remember winning the header and the next thing I was on the ground. I came around after a couple of minutes and my shirt was covered in blood.

“I have spoken to the gaffer and asked him whether I could keep the shirt to put into a frame.

“I have had a bit of double vision and I felt a bit dizzy at the time but I am now on the mend.

“I am hoping to be back for the match against Chorley and there is a chance I could be ready for Tuesday’s game against Solihull but that’s a bit more unlikely because I don’t want to open up the wound.”

Weir expects City to put on a good showing against Lowestoft at Aggborough this afternoon and has been encouraged by his side’s start to the season.
