DEFENDERS Tyler Weir and Sam Minihan could be ruled out as Worcester City look to build on last weekend’s goalless draw at high-fliers Stockport County when they play host to Curzon Ashton on Saturday (3pm).

Weir took a kick on the calf at Edgeley Park on Saturday, while Minihan has a sore hamstring ahead of the Aggborough clash.

While that could mean a return for summer signing and Minihan’s former Loughborough University team-mate George Nash, who has sat out the last three matches, centre-half Clayton McDonald may have to wait a little longer for his recall with Tom Sharpe and Kieran Morris among the stars last weekend.

Joint manager Carl Heeley said: “George is sure to come back into the side at some stage. He’s a very good player but we just felt we had too many new players in the side at the same time and needed a little bit of experience.

“The situation with Clayton is that he’s been told to go and get some fitness. It is down to him at the moment.”

McDonald was one of three players suspended for the trip to Stockport although he wasn’t selected for the two bank holiday weekend games.

Attacking midfielder Sean Geddes sat out Saturday’s match following his two yellow cards against Chorley at the end of last month, while Ashley Vincent completed his three-match ban after his red against Lowestoft Town.

“It will be good to have some competition for places,” Heeley added. “We have also brought in a couple more players.

“It’s always nice to bring in fresh faces but when lads come in then unfortunately other lads will have to go out, either on loan or released. That’s something we will have to look at over the next couple of weeks.

“At the moment, we are happy with where we are. We wanted numbers at the start of the season because of the number of games you have to play. And we have the FA Cup coming up when we can name seven subs.

“Going into Saturday, we’re just hoping the players can build on their performance at Stockport and perform in front of the fans at home.”
