THERE were no late scares at Aggborough as Worcester City eased their way into the third qualifying round of the FA Cup and a trip to Solihull Moors after Beating Holbeach United 2-0 in their second qualifying round replay.

A goal in each half, from Dan Nti and Deon Burton, wrapped up a tie that the home side dominated throughout — only a string of fine saves from keeper Ricky Drury kept the tally down.

After the Worcester frontline had peppered the target early on Drury, who scored a sensational acrobatic equaliser on Saturday, showed his worth on 24 minutes with the first of a number of fine saves, getting down to push away a Burton shot from just outside the area.

Three minutes later he was at it again, this time to deny Ashley Vincent after the winger had gathered a long-range Ellis Deeney pass.

But the best of the bunch from Drury came 10 minutes before the break when he flung himself to his right to keep out Sean Geddes’ drive that looked destined for the back of the net.

Undeterred, City continued to press and moments later the visitors were let off the hook when a cheeky chip from Geddes hit the crossbar and when the rebound fell to Vincent he managed to blaze the ball over the target from six yards.

The Holbeach goal may have led a charmed life but it was the visitors who almost snatched the lead on 37 minutes when striker Tommy Treacher met a corner and his header had to be cleared off the line by Jamie Smith, making his first start of the season for City.

A minute later and the home side were ahead. The ball broke from Nti 25 yards from goal and he let fly with a shot that finally found a way past the keeper and into the bottom right-hand corner.

Injury-time saw Nti go close again but this time Drury denied him with another top save.

It was a similar tale after the break with Vincent twice going close before Smith powered an effort wide from 25 yards.

Worcester’s nerve-settling second came on 64 minutes. Geddes crossed from the right, Nti got the better of the keeper and Burton was on hand to stroke home his first goal for the club.

If Drury had been at fault for the goal he was back at his best two minutes later when he denied Geddes with his legs after the midfielder had exchanged passes with Nti while Gudger put a header wide of the target.

To their credit, Holbeach persevered with substitutes Kieron Rose and Tom Gosling joining Treacher to form a three-pronged attack. But solid defending kept them out of range as City cruised into the next round.
