WORCESTER City will leave nothing to chance in their bid for FA Cup glory at Sheffield United, insists joint manager Carl Heeley.

Heeley says City will be preparing for the match at Bramall Lane as thoroughly as their previous ties against Holbeach United, Solihull Moors and Gateshead.

The Blades have won the FA Cup four times and reached the semi-finals of the competition in April 2014 when they lost 5-3 against Hull City.

“We have got a fair idea of their players and we will do our homework and we will prepare no differently than we have done for our other cup games,” said Heeley.

“We like to prepare as well as a full-time club and it’s nice to get this type of match.”

The much-travelled Deon Burton, a former Sheffield Wednesday player, scored twice for City in last Saturday’s impressive 2-1 triumph at higher-graded Gateshead in the fourth qualifying round.

City have reached the first round for the second year in a row – they defeated League One Coventry City 2-1 at the Ricoh Arena 12 months ago.

“We have got Deon and Wayne Thomas but we have vast experience in our camp and the approach all comes from the top," said Heeley.

“Getting the right approach starts with the experience of the management team and staff and people who have played in big games like this before.

“The squad are a close-knit bunch and socialise together and there were lots of text messages flying around from players and staff after Monday’s FA Cup draw. They were all cock-a-hoop and buzzing for the tie.”

“Holbeach gave us two tough games, we got past Solihull Moors and Gateshead were doing well in the league above and was a difficult place to go, so to get Sheffield United is brilliant."

City’s youngsters, who included Dean Waldron, played against Sheffield United in the second round of the FA Youth Cup in November 2013 but suffered a 9-0 battering at Bramall Lane.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Jake Eyre both hit hat-tricks for the Blades, while Dan Cockerline, Ben Whiteman and Jason Paling also found the target.

Heeley added: "Running a football club takes a lot of work and this tie is a reward for everyone, from the kitman to Snapper (John Snape) and Gards (Matt Gardiner). This will be a fantastic opportunity to test ourselves against a big League One Club, who have been in the Premiership.”
