WORCESTER City supporters have snapped up almost 1,900 tickets so far for their side’s FA Cup first-round tie at League One outfit Sheffield United on Saturday (3pm).

The Blue and Whites will be running at least eight official coaches to Bramall Lane.

City were roared on by 3,300 fans 12 months ago when they sealed a memorable 2-1 victory at Coventry City, who also play in League One.

And 2,000 City supporters made the long trek to watch Worcester hold Scunthorpe United to a 1-1 draw in last season’s second round.

Club secretary John Jordan said: “There are still plenty of tickets available and supporters can get them from the online shop or Worcester Tourist Information Centre.”

The centre at the Guildhall, High Street, Worcester, is open tomorrow and Friday from 9.30am to 5pm.

City are mourning the loss of former skipper Barry Gould, who has died at the age of 71.

Gould was with Arsenal and Chelsea before joining Peterborough United.

He made 15 appearances for Peterborough over two seasons before coming to Worcester following a trial with Bristol Rovers in 1966.

Gould enjoyed four distinguished seasons at the Lane, including a spell as club captain.

He will be remembered as a skilful midfielder with good passing skills and a reliable penalty taker.

Gould skippered City to the Southern League First Division championship in 1967-68 and made 188 first-team appearances with 44 goals
