FORMER Worcester City defender George Williams scored his first professional goal to fire Barnsley to a last-gasp 1-0 win against Peterborough in League One.

Adam Hammill whipped in a cross and Williams flicked a header into the far corner to give the play-off chasing Reds a crucial stoppage-time triumph.

“It was incredible,” said Williams, who joined City from Loughborough University in the summer of 2013 and made more than 40 appearances for the club.

“It was unbelievable to get the win and where we are in the table, it was a huge win. To get my first professional goal and first for Barnsley is a feeling I can’t really describe, it was amazing.”

Williams joined Barnsley from City in December 2014 and played as a wing-back in Tuesday night’s match.

“We were chasing the game and they weren’t leaving anyone up when we had set-pieces so I looked at Josh Scowen and said 'I’m going up'. He looked a bit surprised but I went up.

“I remember seeing the ball come in and I thought their ‘keeper had saved it.

“When it went in, it was a great feeling.”

He added: “I scored a couple at Worcester but none professionally so it was a great feeling. It’s definitely up there. Winning at Wembley will be hard to top but it’s definitely up there. The win was massive for us.”
