DEPARTING winger Tristian Dunkley has hit back at Worcester City boss Carl Heeley’s criticism over the way he handled contract talks.

Heeley said he was “disappointed” Dunkley chose to send a text message rather than having the “courtesy” to call him to reject his contract offer.

But in a post on social media, Dunkley insisted he was “professional” throughout negotiations and said he was “sad” to end his two-year spell at the Vanarama National League North outfit.

Dunkley, who made 21 appearances before sustaining a season-ending shoulder injury in January, said his decision to leave was also down to the “opportunity of game-time”.

“First of all I would like to thank Worcester City and especially the fans for their support during my time at the club - we’ve been through memorable times together which I’ll always cherish,” he said.

“However, my decision to not sign the proposed offer relates more to my development, and the opportunity of game-time.

“It was disappointing that the club and I couldn’t come to terms or an agreement on a contract basis.

“Furthermore, I have certainly been professional with my communication when liaising with the club.”

Dunkley, who has yet to find a new club, added: “I’d like to wish Worcester City a great 2016/17 campaign and hopefully they can push for promotion next season.”

The former Loughborough University midfielder’s response comes after Heeley questioned his “integrity”.

“I made Tristian a very good offer, considering the amount of games he was available for,” Heeley said.

“I got a text message from him saying he didn’t want to take up the offer.

“It is frustrating when you put a lot time and effort in and you can’t even get a phone call to tell you why they are leaving.

“I think a little courtesy to advise people of what your intentions are should be a prerequisite.”
