EXPERIENCED full back Andy Gallinagh will get another chance to impress for Worcester City in tonight’s Worcestershire FA Senior Cup semi-final against Redditch United at Stourport Swifts (7.45pm).

The 31-year-old former Cheltenham Town and Hereford United defender is looking for a new challenge after leaving Conference South outfit Bath City in the summer.

Gallinagh played more than 80 times for Bath and, according to City boss Carl Heeley, offers a “steady” head in the back line.

“Andy is experienced and steady and has played a lot of football, so we will have another look at him,” said Heeley.

“He’s not going to let anyone down, that’s for sure.”

There might also be another opportunity for former Walsall, West Bromwich Albion and Leicester City defender James Chambers.

Chambers retired from professional football in 2015 to concentrate on running his own business but featured for Worcester in their 1-1 draw at Stratford Town.

But the defender wasn’t in City’s squad for their 5-1 defeat against Championship giants Aston Villa at Walshes Meadow on Saturday.

“Chambo played in a charity game and for him to have three games in a week after retiring from professional football is probably a bit too much for him,” said Heeley.

“He was too tired to play against Villa, which is understandable.

“If we could get him on board, we would love to but it’s not as straightforward as that so we will see what happens.”

City will be bidding to repeat last season’s county cup triumph after goals from Daniel Nti, Sean Geddes and Tristian Dunkley gave them a 3-1 win against Redditch in the final.

City, Redditch and Evesham were all handed a bye into the last four of this term’s tournament, while Kidderminster Harriers faced Stourbridge in the first round last night. The final is set to be held at Bromsgrove Sporting’s Victoria Ground on Saturday, when Worcester will be hoping to retain the title for the first time since 1997.

n The date of Worcester’s National League North trip to Chorley has been brought forward by 24 hours.

The match was originally scheduled for Saturday, April 15, 2017 but it will now be played on Good Friday (April 14) with a 3pm kick-off.

A City spokesman said: “For league matches scheduled for April 15 (Easter Saturday), home clubs were given the option of moving the fixture forward 24 hours to Good Friday, providing they informed the league office and their opponents.”
