STRIKER Colby Bishop believes Worcester City’s pace and flair can wreak havoc and bring their five-match winless streak to an abrupt end — if they can get the basics right.

Bishop was on the scoresheet as a much-improved Worcester side recorded their second point of the season thanks to a 1-1 draw at FC United of Manchester last Saturday.

And the 19-year-old is confident his side can now start “stringing a few points together” as they take on Chorley at the Victoria Ground tomorrow (3pm) before visiting Stockport County on Monday (3pm).

However, Bishop insists they must not allow “individual mistakes” to creep into their game as they aim to claim all three points for the first time in this Vanarama National League North campaign.

“After getting a draw last weekend, I think we can push on now and start stringing a few points together,” he said.

“FC United is a hard place to go to as it’s a big atmosphere up there and teams can sometimes crumble.

“But we did very well and battled it out, so we are really happy as a team and want to push on.

“Chorley is a big game so hopefully we will get the three points and then move on to Monday and hopefully get points there as well.

“But we need to make sure we cut out our individual mistakes and just get the basics right as we have got flair up front and enough pace to cause teams problems.”

Bishop is expected to continue as a lone striker with 40-year-old former West Bromwich Albion and Coventry City frontman Lee Hughes one game into a three-match suspension.

And the ex-Notts County youngster, who also scored in City’s 3-2 defeat to Gloucester City, says it is a role he has relished since arriving at the Blue and Whites this summer.

Bishop, who had a spell on loan at Gloucester last season, said: “It’s not the easiest league to be a lone striker in because you get a lot of big centre-backs going into the back of you.

“And, when you are up front on your own, it is hard for the midfielders to get close to you sometimes.

“But it is a learning curve for me and it is only going to make me better.

“From being at Notts County and in the reserves, games don’t come thick and fast and it is not a test like these matches are, so I love being able to play and better myself.

“I am really enjoying it.”

Attacking midfielder Ebby-Nelson Addy serves a one-match ban for his red card following two bookings at FC United but left-back Cieron Keane returns from suspension tomorrow.
