MANAGER Carl Heeley is hopeful of signing a player who can bring “another dimension” to Worcester City’s attack.

The Blue and Whites have scored 22 goals in 15 games this season with Cieron Keane and Chekaine Steele carving out most of their opportunities from the flanks.

But, with the trickery of Steele nullified and Keane forced off with a head injury last Saturday, City failed to fire against Brackley Town, who ran out 3-0 winners in the Emirates FA Cup.

Heeley felt the third qualifying round tie “highlighted” their lack of creative options as Brackley’s goalkeeper Laurie Walker went untested.

And Heeley insisted they were “trying hard” to add to their squad ahead of Worcester’s trip to Boston United in Vanarama National League North on Saturday (3pm).

“We are trying to get a fresh face or two in if we can,” he said.

“They need to be better than we have got and give us another dimension.

“I still think another option out wide would be well received. But it will have to be a player who would have good pace and good legs because I feel that’s an area that was missing and highlighted last week against Brackley.

“Hopefully (we can get it done before Saturday’s game). We are currently working on something but, until it is done, we can’t guarantee it. But we are trying hard.”

This week has already seen midfielder Richard Batchelor leave City just four months after joining the club this summer.

Heeley said it was “disappointing” to see the 27-year-old, who missed a large chunk of pre-season due to a family bereavement, depart.

“Everybody wants to play every week but that’s not possible,” Heeley said.

“Richard had a disrupted start for very unfortunate reasons and that didn’t help but I am sure when he has played regular games of football he will get back to what he does best.”

Asked whether he was planning to find a new player to replace Batchelor’s physicality in midfield, Heeley added: “We have got players who can do that. It’s not an issue.”

Centre-back Kieron Morris, who has recently recovered from a broken hand, has joined Stafford Rangers on a dual-registration agreement.

And Heeley said he was considering sending further fringe players out on loan to get game-time.

“There are a couple of boys who maybe need to go out on loan and get some matches,” he said. “They are receptive to that, so we will try to fix up one or two things.

“We are certainly not going to send players out who we consider to be in our best 11 at the moment or in the squad of 16.

“It’s about getting them games of football and keeping the door open should we want to use them.”
