SUPER sub Colby Bishop’s match-winning performance in Worcester City’s 2-1 victory over AFC Telford United drew high praise from manager Carl Heeley.

The 20-year-old striker was dropped to the bench for the Vanarama National League North clash as forward Jordan Murphy returned to the starting line-up and new signing Connor Hughes was handed his debut on the wing.

But, after replacing Lee Hughes on 69 minutes, Bishop made a big impact as he burst through with only seconds left before calmly stroking the ball home to secure City all three points.

“I am sure Colby was disappointed not to start,” said Heeley, whose side took the lead through Lee Hughes’ early backheel before Luca Havern levelled on 77 minutes.

“But I can’t ask anymore from him as he has gone on there, started winning flicks, running the channels and has got himself away and finished off coolly to nick us the points.”

It was the former Notts County youngster’s seventh goal since joining Worcester in the summer.

And Heeley hinted his display could earn him a recall to face Salford City at Moor Lane on Saturday (3pm).

“Colby has done very well for us but you have got to remember he is a very young lad and it is his first real season of open-age football,” Heeley continued.

“But he has chipped in with some important goals. Whether he has started or come on, he has always made an impact.

“He wants to start on Saturday and he has not done himself any harms with what he did (against Telford).”
