WORCESTER City will have their “work cut out” to stop “dangerous” AFC Fylde frontman Danny Rowe at the Victoria Ground tomorrow (3pm), admits manager Carl Heeley.

The potent striker is well on track to winning the Vanarama National League North’s golden boot this season, having already racked up 28 goals in 19 appearances.

He has hit the net twice as many times as any other player in the league and is the highest scorer across the top six divisions.

Heeley described Rowe as the “best player in the division by a country mile” and said he posed a “major danger” to his 13th-placed side.

However, he insists City will do all they can to shut out the 27-year-old, whose goals have been key to Fylde’s rise to the top of the league table.

“You have only got to look at the goals-for column and how many Danny has scored to see what a major danger he will be to us,” Heeley said.

“They have got a number of players who are dangerous and, as a number of teams have found out this season, Danny is the best player in the division by a country mile in my opinion.

“We are going to have our work cut out to try to stop him but we will do our best.”

Rowe, who netted 24 goals in the league last term and 31 in all competitions the season before, has reportedly attracted interest from a host of Football League clubs, including Championship sides Rotherham, Wigan Athletic and Preston North End.

And Heeley admitted he was “surprised” the former Stockport County player, who signed a two-and-a-half year deal at Fylde in February, was not playing at a higher level.

“Yes, it is surprising, but it depends what sort of deal he is getting at Fylde and how happy he is,” Heeley added.

“There is more to it than just playing football at a higher level. He might want to play at Fylde and, if that is the case, then credit to him.

“He is a top player but they have got a number all through that side who are very good at this level, so we are not going to just look at Danny.”
