FORMER Football League club York City won’t be “getting an easy ride” tomorrow, warns Worcester City boss Carl Heeley.

The Blue and Whites travel to Bootham Crescent with “aspirations” to “cause an upset” in the FA Trophy first round (3pm).

The struggling Minstermen, relegated from League Two at the end of last season, have slipped to the bottom of the Vanarama National League.

City are one tier below their rivals but will be buoyed by a spirited showing in last Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at leaders AFC Fylde in National League North.

A familiar face in York’s ranks could be former City star Daniel Nti, who has netted once in 14 appearances this term.

Heeley said: “All you can ask for is you go there and give it your best shot. The players did that last weekend and on another day we could have taken something from the match.

“But we can take a lot of heart from the performance and you could see there was ability in the side.

“Obviously, we are going to be respectful because York are in the division above and they were in the Football League last season.”

York are managed by the vastly-experienced Gary Mills but their league record suggests they have had problems at both ends of the field.

The Minstermen dropped to the bottom of the league after a 1-0 defeat at table-topping Tranmere Rovers last Saturday.

They have picked up just three league victories from 24 matches, scoring 22 goals and conceding 43.

Heeley said: “It is a very tough tie. I am sure York will be very disappointed with how they have started the season, making the transition into the National League after getting relegated.

“But it is a very good league just like National League North.”

City will be sweating over the fitness of key striker Lee Hughes, who missed last Saturday’s defeat with a knee injury.

However, Heeley is hoping Hughes will be available.

Heeley said: “Ruddi (Farquharson), our physiotherapist, has looked at it and he doesn’t think it is too bad, so with a bit of luck we will have Lee doing some light work. We are hoping Lee will be available for York.”

York also have their fitness worries and will be running the rule over on-loan striker Rhys Murphy (bruised ribs) who was stretchered off at Tranmere.

They could field much-travelled 34-year-old marksman Jon Parkin, the powerful 6ft 4in forward, who has joined them on loan from League Two strugglers Newport County.

Heeley added: “York have a good, old-fashioned stadium with character and are one of the biggest clubs outside of the Football League, so it is something for us to look forward to.

“But we have got to have aspirations to go and cause an upset. That’s going to be our aim. We are competitive and no one is getting an easy ride against us, so we will go and give it our best shot.”

If tomorrow’s match ends in a draw, the replay will be at the Victoria Ground in Bromsgrove on Tuesday (7.45pm).
