THE SURPRISE return of attacking midfielder Sean Geddes was a “one-off”, insists Worcester City manager Carl Heeley.

The ex-Manchester United trainee made a cameo appearance off the bench late on in City’s 1-0 defeat to Bradford Park Avenue in Vanarama National League North on Saturday.

Since leaving City on the eve of the campaign after failing to impress Heeley in pre-season, Geddes had spells at Hednesford Town and Stafford Rangers before joining Evo-Stik Northern Premier Division outfit Sutton Coldfield Town.

But Heeley revealed the 24-year-old, who starred in City’s FA Cup run in 2014 and shot to fame with his “Rabona” effort against Barrow in the FA Trophy, remained registered with the club.

And he insisted Geddes had only come back to “help” them out after being hit with injuries to captain Danny Jackman (back), wingers Micah Evans (calf) and Connor Hughes (knee) and defender Tom Sharpe (knee).

“We are down to the bare bones,” said Heeley, whose side are just two points above the drop zone after Nicky Boshell’s stoppage-time winner for third-from-bottom Avenue at Bromsgrove’s Victoria Ground.

“I am having to play players that in an ideal world I wouldn’t want to have to.

“But we kept Sean’s registration and as he didn’t have a game for Sutton Coldfield on Saturday, I phoned up (their manager) Richard Sneekes, who I get on really well with, and he said I can use Sean.

“It just gave us another player who could come on if we needed, but it was a one-off, he has just come out to help us.”
