WORCESTER City are expected to discover how long crocked duo Connor Hughes and Tom Sharpe will face on the treatment table.

There were fears winger Hughes and defender Sharpe would need to undergo surgery in a bid to repair their injured knees.

But assistant boss John Snape revealed Sharpe was set to have a light training session this week.

And Snape confirmed Hughes was poised to have a scan to find out the extent of the “damage” he sustained to his ligaments in City’s New Year’s Day clash at Kidderminster Harriers.

Sharpe, who has made 18 appearances this season, has not featured since experiencing “clicking” in his knee during Worcester’s trip to Gainsborough Trinity before Christmas.

“Tom is still struggling with his knee,” Snape said. “He should be back in light training this week but it is not looking as bad as first thought.

“At the moment he is going to see if he can get some movement in it before we take the next measure.”

City paid a fee to sign Hughes on an 18-month deal from FC Halifax Town in November.

But the 23-year-old has missed City’s last four games since hobbling off in the first half of their 2-1 defeat at Kidderminster.

Snape added: “Connor has had medical advice, with two opinions on it, and we are going to go for the scan to see the extent of the damage.

“Once that’s done we will let people know.”

Midfielder Connor Gater is due to return to the Blue and Whites from Stourbridge where he has spent the last three months on loan.

However the 24-year-old, who has yet to play for City this term, is also likely to have an operation on his nagging toe problem.
