MANAGER Carl Heeley admits Worcester City’s “embarrassing” 3-0 defeat at Gloucester City could be his “final” game in charge of the club.

Luke Hopper and Ross Finnie both pounced on mistakes from Sam Oji before Joe Hanks struck late on to wrap up an emphatic victory at Whaddon Road on Saturday.

Heeley said he was left “bitterly disappointed”, insisting his side’s display in the Vanarama National League North clash was “not even close to being acceptable”.

And City’s long-serving boss, who took over in January 2010, revealed he was considering ending his seven-year tenure.

“Overall I am bitterly disappointed with our performance,” he said.

“I am embarrassed because I think we have got outbattled a little bit.

“They looked like they wanted to win the game more than us and we gave them a little bit of a helping hand to it.”

City have been “crippled” by injuries and suspensions, but Heeley refused to use that as an excuse for his players’ showing.

The Blue and Whites remain five points above the relegation zone after a run of 10 matches without a win in the league.

“When you are at the end of January and you are where we are in the league then that tells a story,” he said.

“The injuries and suspensions have crippled us and I am asking players to play out of position because we are lacking options, particularly in wide areas.

“I am asking central midfield players to play out wide and do a job, but overall the performance was not even close to what is acceptable for this football club.

“We are limited, but that said I expect more from that group of players with the experience they have got as we try to look after them well.”

Heeley said he was unhappy with the criticism he felt he was receiving from some supporters and admitted he was considering to “step aside”.

“I am an honest guy, I say it as it is and I give my best at all times and if people don’t think my best isn’t good enough that’s fine by me,” he said.

“I won’t be lost without football.

“But (chairman) Anthony Hampson is a top man and he deserves the respect from me to sit down with him before I make a final decision.

“This could absolutely be my final game in charge of Worcester City.”
