STRUGGLING Worcester City have created a “pack” mentality to make sure everyone is “pulling in the same direction”, according to captain Danny Jackman.

Eighteenth-placed City are on an 11-match winless streak in Vanarama National League North and without a manager following the resignation of Carl Heeley.

Jackman, who has stepped in to assist temporary boss John Snape while City search for Heeley’s successor, admitted confidence was low.

However, he said they have tried to improve his team-mates’ “body language” and their desire to win the ball back after losing possession.

Worcester bounced back from a demoralising 3-0 defeat at Gloucester City with a 1-1 draw at home to play-off chasing Tamworth last Saturday.

And 34-year-old midfielder Jackman believes their efforts in training shone through at Bromsgrove’s Victoria Ground.

“The lads trained really well last week,” he said. “We got them in and got them bright and reacting to giving the ball in training.

“We worked on the lads’ body language to go after the ball again and I think it showed at the weekend.

“We all worked together as a pack so we are trying to get that mentality where we are all pulling in the same direction.

“But they were fantastic for Snapper and myself. We have got a good bunch of lads in there.

“It is just confidence which we are struggling with but we will get there.”

The Blue and Whites took the lead on 37 minutes thanks to a superb 25-yard strike from stand-in skipper Lee Hughes.

Tamworth frontman Danny Newton levelled from the spot just before half-time but City finished on the front foot.

“They were fantastic in their application, their attitude was spot-on and there were some great individual performances,” Jackman added.

“For me, Ebby (Nelson-Addy) was outstanding and Colby Bishop was very good so we have got a lot of positives to take out of the performance.

“Considering there are a lot of young lads out there, we have done well and I am really pleased.”

Attacking midfielder Micah Evans came off the bench to make his first appearance in almost two months after a calf problem.

Defender Tom Sharpe looks set to return to training this week as he continues to battle back from a knee injury, while Jackman expects winger Connor Hughes (knee) to be out for “a couple of weeks”.

However, left midfielder Cieron Keane is back for Worcester’s trip to Harrogate Town on Saturday (3pm) after serving a two-match ban.

“We are getting one or two back now which is good,” said Jackman who has been struggling with a back complaint.

“It helps with the competitiveness of the squad and we are going to need everyone to get through these next few games.”
