WORCESTER City captain Danny Jackman admits he will not fully recover from his back problem until the summer.

The influential midfielder has not played for 18th-placed City in more than two months after being forced off against Kidderminster Harriers on Boxing Day.

Worcester-born Jackman said he suffered “severe bone bruising” and admitted he was “still feeling the effects” of the injury.

But the 34-year-old has returned to training and was an unused substitute in City’s 1-1 draw with Tamworth in Vanarama National League North last Saturday.

“I just took a blow to the lower part of my spine,” said Jackman who has made 17 appearances this term.

“There was severe bone bruising so these things take a long time to recover from.

“I am still feeling the effects of it a bit but until it goes completely then it is something you have got to try to deal with as best as you can.”

Following the resignation of Carl Heeley late last month Jackman has stepped in to help stand-in boss John Snape manage the team.

The ex-Northampton Town and Gillingham player said he was “thoroughly enjoying” his new role as part of a temporary coaching set-up that had also included striker Lee Hughes before his departure yesterday.

But Jackman said his extra responsibilities have led to a “juggling act” as he tries to “battle” back to full fitness.

“I am trying to build my fitness level up because I wasn’t able to do stuff and that does take its toll,” he continued.

“I am still trying to battle my way back but with what I am doing at the minute it is a bit of a juggling act.

“But it is improving so it is a case of managing it and seeing how it is after each training session until the summer months when it can fully recover.”

Worcester, who are three points above the drop zone, travel to Harrogate Town tomorrow (3pm) looking to end an 11-match winless streak in the league.

“I was on the bench last Saturday so I am fit enough to be able to be in and around the squad,” Jackman added.

“Whenever Snapper feels he needs me then I will be available for him.”
